The Shallow End
….’a mulberry leaf touched with the genius of a man becomes silk. A field of clay touched with the genius of man becomes a castle. A Cyprus tree touched with the genius of man becomes a shrine. A cut of sheep’s wool touched with the genius of man becomes raiment for a king. If it is possible for leaves and clay and wood and hair to have their value multiplied by a hundred, yea a thousand fold by man, can you not do the same with the clay which bears your name, the talents bestowed upon you by the creator, the gifts that you possess?’…….
… Theodore Roosevelt talked of two classes of high achievers. The first class is made up of people who are endowed with special gifts and talents or unique physical attributes such that what they do it is only they who can do it. However, there is a second class of achievers that is made up of people who are not differentiated from the rest by the quality of their talent but by the effort they devote into developing a given area. They are not people of extra ordinary talent or admirable physical stature. This is the class that many of us fall under and amazingly, the most remarkable successes in history have come from this second category.
